THE OFFICE ESCAPE ROOM

PROJECT ROLE

Co-Designer & Developer

PROBLEM

The subject matter expert just wanted a unique way to convey security protocols to their associates, where completion of the course granted them access to enter for a prize from their yearly contest raffle. Their main stipulation was to make it "fun and challenging."

SOLUTION

When I thought of "fun and challenging", one of the first things that came to mind was an escape room. With that in mind, I set out to find the best way to create that in Storyline since it was something I had never done before. Upon meeting back up with the subject matter experts, they brainstormed numerous ways we could use the company aesthetic in connection with how an escape room would flow.

TOOLS

  • Vyond

  • Articulate Storyline 360

  • Adobe Photoshop

  • Microsoft Word

STORYBOARD

After deciding on the escape room idea, the subject matter experts and myself got together to create a storyboard that laid out the clues within the required information. We also based many of the clues and aspects to unlocking anything on materials you would often see in the home office.

VYOND ASSETS

I created the three rooms using Vyond, as they had most of the assets I needed to create the environment and individual pieces. I fine tuned a few of those assets in Photoshop.

Project Name

In Storyline, there were many triggers and variable combinations that I had to test extensively for this course to make sure it worked correctly. I enlisted the help of my fellow developers to see if there's anything within those combinations they could "break" or find bugs in, which was an added timeline extender I anticipated.
